Peony Newsletter

The newsletter is free and is issued twice annually; usually in May and November.

Peonies and only peonies

La Pivoinerie is a Canadian peony nursery growing herbaceous peonies as well as tree peonies and Itoh peonies. Our peonies are shipped each fall to gardeners in Canada, the United States and Europe.

This is my 10th anniversary catalogue and I hope that you approve of my choices. There are well over 700 different cultivars in the peony field and I offer a different group of them each year. Making up the catalogue is one of the best jobs I have each winter.

To celebrate my 10th anniversary and thinking of all the gardens that now include my peonies, the website has a gift to gardeners this season in the form of a very special article about photographing plants and gardens. The article was written by award winning Quebec photographer Louise Tanguay and I hope it inspires you as her work has always inspired me.

This year I am experimenting with YouTube and have created two how to plant peonies videos. You will find links to them in the About Peonies section.

Given the basics of sunshine, fertile soil and good drainage peonies are long lived plants that can thrive for decades in the same location. Peonies are deer resistant and many of them do not require staking. Fragrance ranges from nonexistent to exquisite with many somewhere in between.

Peonies are the backbone of the herbaceous perennial border. I invite you to get creative and experiment with the colours and forms available this year. Call me if you would like some suggestions!
